CogniFlow®

Biotech in droplets, for every lab!

We lower the entry barrier to droplet biotechnology by providing affordable instrumentation tailored to your workflow.

Faster results

1000 droplets can be generated per second. The same amount takes minutes with a pipetting robot.

In cell libary preparation workflows, droplets can offer 3-6x faster results than pipetting robots.

Low energy

Our cell encapsulation and detection method consumes only 25W, which is about 10x less than with a pipetting robot.

Combined with the compact size of the platform, you can easily carry the CogniFlow® to where it’s used.

Unlimited samples

There is no limit to the number of droplets, you can generate as many as you want.

Our system can generate 1000 droplets/second, combining different cells and reagents (e.g. nutrients and yeast cells).

Inline automation

Our system can integrate inline with up- and downstream processes and third-party instruments.

We can also develop a custom solution taking into account your existing workflow.

Low cost

Our instrument costs 3-5x less than comparable solutions.

Droplets use 10-100x less reagent than pipetting robots or manual workflows.

CogniFlow® lowers the entry barrier to instrumented droplet biotechnology

Pipetting robots are a staple of biotechnology automation, especially library preparation workflows. However, they need expertise to program and have a steep instrumentation cost to get started with. Also, they have a maximum throughput that is defined by the linear motors, which is a hard limit. Finally, even though multi-well plates have a low dead volume, all but the most precise air displacement pipettes work with milliliter volumes and that creates plenty of waste in high-throughput workflows.

In contrast, nano- to picoliter droplets can be generated as fast as your pump and sensor can handle, and in extremely large numbers (1000/s typically, but can be as high as 10 000/s in some setups). They each can contain different experimental conditions, similar to a tiny test tube. Due to the encapsulating oil, these water droplets are chemically isolated and can remain stable for days. Thus, you can do your whole workflow in them.

However, not unlike pipetting robots, most droplet instrumentation is either too expensive or needs to be built from scratch, which takes time away from value-creating biotech workflows. Enter CogniFlow®: we intend to bring the entry barrier down, so every biotech lab can have a droplet biotech setup, and make their development and production scaling significantly faster.
